What is worship like at St. John's?
Answer: Our worship is fairly traditional. We gather in one place. We light candles. We sing hymns. We hear assigned readings from the Bible. We listen to a short sermon and reflect. We pray the Lord's Prayer and recite one of the ancient creeds of the Church either the Nicene or the Apostles. We share the peace. We take up an offering for the needs of the church and the outside community. We share a meal of blessed bread and wine. Then go about our week to live as people of love and grace in the world.
Do you have to be baptized, confirmed, or a member of St. John's to take Holy Communion?
Answer: No. All are welcome regardless of their religious affiliation, or membership. All who seek to encounter God's grace and Christ's true presence in the sacrament of bread and wine are welcome, including children. Gluten-free wafer bread is offered, and grape juice for those not desiring wine.
What is the worship music like at St. John's?
Answer: The worship music is traditional. The hymns and other service music is accompanied by a church organ and sometimes piano. In the summer months, we have special soloists, who provide special musical anthems for meditation and reflection during Sunday worship.
Is there a church choir at St. John's?
Answer: Yes. There are four choirs. The 'Angel' choir for nursery-age children. The 'Shepherd' choir for elementary and middle school-age children. The 'Chancel' choir for adults. The Handbell choir for youth and adults.
What must you bring to worship at St. John's?
Answer: Nothing, just yourself. When you arrive, someone will greet you at the door. Be sure to take a service bulletin to follow along and participate in the worship service. The hymns are primarily found in the back of the red worship book located in the pews, and sometimes in the blue hymnal also located in the pews.
Can you wear anything to worship at St. John's?
Answer: Yes. Some dress up. Some dress down. God loves you no matter how you dress.
